real raw live..Franklin Ave..part deux

For those of you that don't  know me...Any place with the words REAL RAW and LIVE in the title is a place I want to be.  So when I walked into Real Raw Live on my Franklin Ave journey I was super ecstatic.  I might have even let out a slight yelp :).

Let's start with the amazing energy you are greeted with when you walk through the door.  It's bright, it's big and it's green , which happens to be one of my favorite colors.

Green is the color of life people!

I loved everything about this big smoothie, raw, organic heaven.  First off you know you are in the right place when there are 10 people in line ahead of you and blenders a-blaring!!  Forgive me if I just completely destroyed that saying.

They are also a health food store of sorts.  From wraps to wellness shots, salads to toothpaste, Kombucha to liquid herbs, this place is a mini one stop shop if you are in the market to get your insides right!  Which we all know makes the outsides really right!

They also have something called the 5 Day Live Food Experience Cleanse.  Offered once  a month.  I will be back for that one.

So if you are in neighborhood or just in the mood for some really great raw organic treats..this place is definitely worth the effort.

Oh and......Enjoy your Memorial Day weekend everyone!  :)

Oh No...not another 4 part series..Franklin Ave..

A few seconds ago as I feverishly typed the title of this blog entry ..I said to myself really Taye?  Another series?  Didn't you just do one of those?  Where is the creativity WOMAN!   Thus I had to step away from my computer and make something to eat.

Nothing crazy..just French Toast, Eggs, Mint Tea (with a hefty amount of agave), a spoon of liquid multi vitamins and a bite of the chocolate left over from yesterday.  Hey its Thursday the 27th..Sex and the City comes out today and I will need all my energy for the 5pm tickets that I bought three weeks ago :)  Go ahead call me a dork!

Anyhow..breakfast has now been consumed and I am thinking clearly.  Phew...  Okay...Another series?  Hells yes!!

Lets talk Franklin Ave... Now for those of you who either live way out or do not currently reside in Los Angeles there is a little block on Franklin Ave. between Tamarind Ave. and Bronson in the heart of Hollywood.  I love this block!  I want to hug this block!  I could eat this block!!

It's a combo of food, a coffee shop, clothes, book stores and a little theater.  Everything you need for a full days entertainment.. well at least a half a day!

Moving on..

I'm going to start this series with little boutique called Native.  Super cute threads, amazing jewelry, awesome staff and hello!!!... they serve wine!!  That's right..have a glass of Pinot Grigio, while you admire yourself in the amazing dress you are about to make yours!  I tell you ..trying on clothes while slightly buzzed makes you feel and look like a super model no matter what. :D

Oh and did I mention the %50 off sale they are currently having on half the store..

Now being a pretty new blogger I have not yet mastered the art of blogging about a place and not pulling out my wallet to make a purchase.  I figure that type of discipline only comes with a spiritual adviser and hours of chanting and mediation to reach my inner self.. Thus I did walk away with an item or two...Oh Well!!

all I can say is Native.. I "LIKE"

oh comfort food...

Mac and Cheeza...

This little comfort food late night extravaganza is perched in the heart of downtown L.A.  Now...when I was first told about this place I thought to my lactose intolerant self.."don't even think about it!"...and then of course I hailed the first taxi there (oh wait that's the New York version...sorry I'm so excited about Sex and the City 2 opening this week I forgot where I was)..anyhow..back to Downtown LA.

...So after hopping in my car and traveling the 101 freeway ... I parked ..pranced across the street and entered this cute little store front.

Let's start by understanding the idea.  Mac and cheese is the menu..the only thing on the menu!

You pick your noodle (Regular or Rice).
You pick your cheese (Regular or Soy).
You pick your Veggie (everything from Collard Greens to Jalapenos).
You pick your meat (everything from Ground Beef to Veggie Sausage).

Then they pack it all into an adorable little tin pan and top it off with more cheese and spicy toasted walnuts and bake it!  MY GOD!  Need I say more...?

Open Sunday -Thursday 11am-11pm and Friday-Saturday 11am-2am

Oh and did I say mac and cheese was the only thing on the menu?  opps...I lied :)  The also have sweets.  Red velvet cake to my personal childhood favorite Lemonheads!  ...And if you are in the mood to top all that wonderfulness off with a little carbonation..they have Cucumber Soda!  Umm.. if that doesn't make you grab the closest person next to you and  B-line it straight to downtown LA..I don't know what will!!

lets talk chocolate...

Lets talk chocolate...John Kelly Chocolates to be exact.

I was first introduced to John Kelly chocolates about a year ago at Neiman Marcus (Christmas time when they give copious amounts of chocolate samples out on the first floor..right next to shoes of course!!  I took my first sample, politely said thank you and proceeded to WINDOW SHOP.  Uggg! Anyhow,  by the time I came back around for my 5th or so sample of this incredibly rich peanut butter chocolate combo I said "what is this, and why, and what is this!"   I've been hooked ever since.

Cut to three weeks ago as I was sitting inside my car outside of Cheebo debating whether I should partake in a bowl of soup or be a responsible adult and cook the food in my fridge, I noticed a sign that said John Kelly Chocolates OPEN!!

After wiping my eyes to make sure I was not hallucinating I ditched my soup dilemma (obviously) and trotted on next door to what I can only describe as a  piece of heaven disguised in a small store front.  Not only was my peanut butter bar there..but a case full of salty chocolate/caramel amazingness.

So I without hesitation bought 5 pieces. Of course to share with others ...umm yeah right!

Now what makes this place even more special is that the owners and the staff are always there and are ALWAYS super nice.

...AND they make the chocolate treats right there.  Like on the premises!  You walk in door, look to the right and there they are..making the delectables you are going to eat..Can you say fresh!!!

AND AND..They won the 2009 "sofi" Gold Award for outstanding chocolate.  Hello that's like the Oscars of chocolate!!

oh and if you are at all a skeptic, they have a plate full of samples everyday!

Local, fresh, hand made and a "chocolate Oscar" winner...I "LIKE"

and finally...Little Tokyo

Shop Online

Studs, jeans, jewelry, high-waisted denim shorts, belts, sunglasses, mini mouse tee's, fanged rings and swanky international magazines makes one of the cutest boutiques in Little Tokyo..scratch that.. in all of downtown LA.

I wanted everything!!!   EVERYTHING!!

Owned by couple Alona Lobit and Nate Varmehr this wayyyy cute,  not so little boutique is price friendly and people friendly.  Along with wanting EVERYTHING (have I driven that point home yet?),  I did not want to stop talking to the owner Alona.  She was awesome..super nice,  super helpful..and incredibly stylish!!!  Unlike some boutiques in the greater Los Angeles area..we won't mention any names.. I felt like she actually wanted to sell me something..  and sell me something she did.. :)

hello.. cute little white leather bracelet..

...And fellas this place is not only for the Ladies :)

Well this concludes our Stuff She Likes four part series on the fabulous Little Tokyo..

there is so much more to explore down there..grab the closest friend (human or non human) and take a little trip one Saturday afternoon..

You will definitely "LIKE"
