This one's for the guys...Richie the Barber

Let's talk Richie The Barber..and yes his legal name is Richie The Barber.  As usual I was spending one of many Saturday's with my bestie Courtney K.  We were enjoying a Macrobiotic lunch at M Cafe Melrose when he decided that he wanted a hair cut.  So we hopped in my car and drove the three blocks (don't judge's LA) down to 264 Customs..Part tattoo shop, part barber shop and home to Richie The Barber.

This man cuts every body's hair. His prices are amazing and you get a shot of Whiskey with your cut.  A Shave, a cut and a shot of Jack Daniels!!  Guys..does it get better than that? Sorry girls..he doesn't cut the ladies.. but go in and say hi just because. ;)

Super nice, super down to earth and super talented (Courtney's hair looks amazing all the time).

The Artist Market

This past Thursday evening armed with my Nikon, my studded vest and a mouth full of MAC red lady danger lipstick, I hopped in my car and headed to the Artist Accessories Market at Runway Boutique. My girl Sita was one of the local designers invited to sell her Bowjie's (see archived article titled Bowjie).

Being that I love local designers, cute boutique's and free snacks I was super excited to get there.  Did you know that San Pellegrino makes a delicious flavored sparkling water?  Neither did I!  So Yummy.

Anyhow back to the story at hand.  What a cute little gathering. I have always seen Runway Boutique as I traveled up Labrea, mostly on my commute home from various activities of the day but never stopped.  Runway is a sweet not so little boutique split half between amazing vintage and new local designers.

There were about seven designers participating in this intimate market. But three caught my eye.

1. Bowjie.  My girl Sita's line of me bias.  Super cute one of a kind bow's made from completely recycled fabrics.  Headbands, belts and pin on's that spice up any outfit.

2. Jacqulin James & Jewels.  Amazing art deco inspired earrings not for the faint of heart. They're big, they're colorful and they're uber cute.

3. NE~NE's soy secret candles.  These hand poured, non toxic 100% soy botanical candles smell like heaven and wont leave you with that slight head banging that a lot of others do.

Needless to say.. I drank, I photographed, and I might have purchased an item or two ..Might have :).  Although the artist market is over I will definitely return to Runway Boutique.  Any business that supports local designers gets my vote!

P.S.  Since you amazing readers could not be there..the lovely ladies of the three lines mentioned above sent over some amazing items that I will share with you..

Yay!! GIVE AWAY'S!!..stay tuned for the next Blog on what, and how to win.

Casa Sexy..

Chef Alex's Chicken Taco's
 Taco's de Camarones Frito's
  Braised Beef Short Ribs Birria
   Tamale de Elote

And sexy this little Casa is!!

Never mind that I was almost an hour late to the private dinner party I was so generously invited to.  The dinner party that was to debut Chef Alex Moreno's new menu for this year and a half old Downtown LA establishment.  Never mind that that the navigation in my recently returned from the body shop car went haywire.  Never mind that I passed the restaurant that was in plain sight about eight times before my flustered, famished self realized I was indeed on the right street...NEVERMIND ALL THAT..

..Because once the first bite hit my tongue..I was in love!!!  And everyone knows when you fall in love all else goes out the window (or is that just me?)

Okay lets talk tacos, tacos and more... you guessed it.. tacos.   My grandma makes tacos..really good ones and until now I was hooked on her turkey, cheese pan fried taco's with copious amounts Louisiana hot sauce (I'm creole people what do you expect!!)

Umm Yeah...these ain't your grandma's tacos.  They have attitude.  They have pizazz and most important..Flavor.  Flavor.  Flavor.  Really refined delicious flavor!   If they were a pair of heels..I would rock them like everyday!

Shall I start with the Taco's de Camarones Frito's.  Yeah I don't speak Spanish either, allow me to explain..

Lightly battered and fried Mexican Shrimp tossed in a spicy crema, served with caramelized pineapple, cabbage and house candied almonds all in a flour tortilla.  Drooling yet?

Shall I keep going?

How about:

Carnitas...  Translation: confit of pork shoulder, served with roasted Yukon Gold potatoes, Pickled red onions and a chile guajillo sauce with a lime crema.

I know..I know..I had to pick my jaw up off the floor too.

Oh what?  you're a vegetarian?.. Never fear..

Tacos de Mercado:  Squash Blossom molcajete, grilled Gloria Farm's corn and market zucchini finished with a queso fresco..

Ohhhh yeah.. I said it!

Not only is the new menu amazing, the drinks are killer too!! On a tight Budget?  Let me tell you, the prices make you all warm and fuzzy inside.  Ranging from $5 to $18 bucks.. and If that isn't enough they have HAPPY HOUR :)  Hows that for a night out!

None of us are as strong as all of us..

Me, Tracy Perez, Jamie Blair and  Lauren Preston

Who better to self promote but one's self...I won't make this to lengthy..But..YAY!! WHOO HOO!!  WHOPPIE!!!!

I have been published again..

...and what a wonderful little publication it is.  It's grass roots, it's's super cute.. it's folks getting together and saying I want to do something awesome and freaking DOING IT!!!

You Gotta love that!
Which brings us to Liberating Style Magazine. When actress Tracy Perez and the folks over at LS asked little ol' me to shoot the cover story for there July/August issue..umm I was there!!!

I met with Tracy..and made a new friend.  Sweet, amazingly beautiful and more important super down to earth!!

We rounded up our friends!! My style icon the lovely (and very preggy with twins) Lauren Preston. Master of pretty face,  makeup artist Jaime Blair (who is Tracy's go to lady).   My good friend producer and fellow photog Jason Gurvitz and my girl Michelle Papillion owner of the Papillion Institute of Art Gallery and we made some magic happen!  Oh and let me not forget that Courtney K was on site as always for support (love him)!  It was a fun filled, full of laughs stressful day complete with Starbucks for breakfast and Subway sandwiches for lunch (best thing to cater with if you are on a tight tight budget).

Which leads me to my thoughts of today.  As I reflected on the stress of shooting my first cover story..I also thought about a phrase that a good friend who is no longer with us use to say...

"None of us are as strong as all of us".

I would never have been able to pull this off with out these FRIENDS.  NEVER!!!   We all have busy crazy lives, but we all came together and made it happen and I am damn proud to say that!

Steel Magnolia!!!!

Carrie Bradshaw's favorite New York Bakery has finally landed in the City of Angeles.. whoo hoo!!

Flashback!!... My first encounter with Magnolia Bakery in the West village.  It's was eight years as hell and I was in New york for a two week visit, which quickly turned into a month.  The line:  out the door.  The Frosting:   mile high chocolate.  The Cupcake: vanilla.

That was then...THIS IS NOW..

LA has once again been blessed!  This bright,  fun, vintage styled bakery is twice the size as it's New York twin and permanently parked on one of the best streets in LA!

I met owner Steve Abrams about two weeks ago as I stumbled into the still under construction store front hoping to prematurely snag the Key lime cheesecake that I had been lusting after since last Decembers trip to NYC.   Instead I snagged an invite to the private opening soirĂ©e... And of course I brought the two besties with!!

Now for those who are not familiar with Magnolia...This little sugar shop is not for the faint of heart!  So all you Sugar Soldiers unite.  Bring your steel, and by that I mean forks people because it's sweet and it's a great way!

Here are a few words to help you understand where I am coming from:

Key lime Cheesecake.  Pumpkin Pecan w/Ginger Snap Crust.   Truffled Chocolate Cupcake.  Peppermint Icebox Cake.    Banana Cream Pie.    Peanut Butter Toffee Bar.    Lemon Cornmeal Shortbread Cookies w/Iced Molasses.   Whoopie Cookies.  Apple Crumb Pie.  Coconut Cake.  Lemon Squares....

Magnolia Officially opens today at noon... Soooo ..Put the computer down and get over there..because if you think the line at Sprinkles is long....

Gotta love a good rainbow..

Now anyone who knows me knows that I love all thing French...YES ALL THINGS!  French food...French people... French tongue (I mean the language for those of you who went somewhere else with that one)...

Did I say french food?

Which brings me to one of my favorite French treats.  MACARONS!!!  I actually love them more than Sprinkles cupcakes and that is saying a whole lot.

So imagine my glee (yes I said glee) when I came across a little store front in Beverly Hills that has nothing but french macaroons.  It's actually a French Macaron Shop!!

Dear God save my thighs!!

It's like finding a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow..well at least for me it is :)

First off when you walk in the shop all you smell is the baking of macarons.  Lots of beautiful, sweet, creamy, flawless macarons.  Yes that's because they actually bake them on the premises.  Not only is your nose stimulated beyond belief, but your retina's are too!.. It's absolutely beautiful in there.  The vibrant colors and the way the light cascades a top the array of macaroons...okay maybe that's a bit much but you get it right!!

Sicilian Pistachio, Rose, Caribbean Chocolate and Passion Fruit are just a couple of my favorites..actually I have had yet to have a flavor that I don't like..They are all amazing!

I highly suggest a box..a big box!!

Oh and for those of you in San Francisco..yup ..Paulette just opened a shop!!

Self indulgence..

Self Indulgence

So I got published..Like in a real magazine...Like a real big magazine!!  That being said I could not resist to blog about my newest accomplishment.

It may seem a bit self indulgent but trust me, it goes right in line with the thought that's been running circles in my mind all week.

No matter how big and no matter how small.  This world is a tough place and who better to celebrate and reward us but "us".

To open a major fashion magazine and see an entire page with my photos is what I have been working for,  working at..sacrificing for for the last couple years...and this win for me is just the beginning of the heights that I know I can reach.  I see my goals..Super clear and Super attainable.

The phrase "Self Indulgence" has gotten a bad rap...Today I am turning that negative into a positive!

So with that said..I want all of us to practice a little self indulgence ..the positive kind!!

Celebrate your wins...with a little self indulgence.. I "LIKE"
