A little local farming...

 

When summer times hits in L.A.  Which by the way for those that don't live here...we do have these sort of mini pi-polar seasons.  So when summer time actually hits for real we Angelino's venture out in packs.  And on most summer Sunday mornings most of those packs can be found at the Hollywood farmers market.  

I.... LOVE.... THIS.... MARKET!!  

It's full of goodies.  I usually park and head straight for the Carmela ice cream booth.  No matter what time I get there.  I sample about 4 flavors and then buy a little tub to take home.  With flavors like salted caramel and Lemon Basil how could I not.  Then I walk..my pattern goes a little something like this:

walk..stop..sample..walk..purchase..walk..purchase..sample...sample.. purchase :)

The  the conversations are hilarious and the people watching is even better..every week I meet a new and interesting person. It's the one place where families, entertainers, artists, celebrities, and pretty much any type of person you can think of can all go and really enjoy a Sunday morning.  

It goes til about 1:30 in the afternoon..and because I am not a morning person I have no idea when it exactly starts..so I'm going to take an intelligent guess..probably around 8am..but don't quote me :)

THINGS!!!

Ahh June 21st...

The first day of summer, longest day and shortest night of the year...and just so happens to be the day my 9 month old gestated self decided that I had had enough of the comfort and warmth of the womb...  That was it ..I had heard the muffled voices, listened to the muffled music and shared one to many a meal with the lovely lady whom I was to call mom for the rest of my days.  

Story goes that Mom and Dad were at a restaurant and she decided against her better judgement and got the fudge chocolate cake...three bites and I was on the way..

Now I won't tell you how old I am today..because a very wise older lady once told me that a woman should always keep them guessing.  ;)  

and as long as the Lancome face cream and multi vitamins allow me to do that..believe I will!

Anyhow...a  week ago I decided that I needed to clear out the clutter and this had to be done before my birthday.  So the Saturday before my big day I decided that my office/everything room would be the first to be gutted...and my dear friend Mr. Courtney K (seen in the above photo) just so happened to be there as I made the first incision.  I told him it would be a two hour job..in and out..so he signed on without hesitance...

....and....

6 hours later we were done..

Who knew that one could actually accumulate 7 trash bags worth of old papers, bank statements and  photo's of the ex...and that was 5 trash bags of stuff that had been put through a shredder.  

...not to mention the cards, books, jewelry, clothes, and gadgets that were also sent to there maker!

We shredded.  We cleaned.  We organized...well Courtney organized because organization is apparently not my strong suit..

Wow what a feeling!!  I highly suggest to everyone..throw it all away!  In that process I realized that I don't need THINGS.  Not to say that we have not earned the right to enjoy THINGS, but in that 6 hour journey I realized that I can enjoy these THINGS and not have to hold on to them forever.  They are firmly pressed in my memory..

Plus it opens the path for new THINGS to enjoy..

Which is exactly what we did after the cleaning extravaganza!!

My present to myself was a free screening of Desperately Seeking Susan at the LA Film festival downtown.  Out doors, at night, big screen and snacks.  I loved this movie as a kid and I love it now.  Can I just tell you how Fierce Madonna was an still is..

Oh and I got to wear my first b-day gift of the year... my new Tom Ford round gold sunglasses..  Thanks Grandma.. She actually picked them out herself!! 

So now that I have purged and enjoyed.. I can only go through this next year of my life with optimism and love...  two THINGS that we could all use a bit more of..I certainly know I can..

So I woke up this morning fully prepared to Blog about the Sunday Farmers Market..  Pictures prepared and all..

But as I woke up and began my routine..I noticed that in the last two days my skin has looked amazing. 

I know what you are thinking..umm okay?

Allow me to give to give you a little back story.

Everyone that knows me knows that I am a little all over the place... oh okay a lot all over the place.  So when I run out of something whether it be toothpaste or light bulbs..it tends to take me two weeks to remember to replace it.  

Thus leading me to today's blog.  

About two weeks ago I ran out of my Dr. Perricone Nutritive Facial Cleaner...and for those two weeks I have been using a different cleanser, that shall remain nameless.  This blog is called Stuff She Likes people. :)

...Let me tell you for two weeks my skin has experienced a steady decline..adult acne and all.

Anyhow..Two days ago I remembered to head to Sephora to buy my cleanser, along with a few other goodies  and in two days my skin is well on it's way back to it's bright, dewy self.  

Now the second product is simple.  Smiths Minted Rose Lip Balm.  Apply anytime lips feel dry and right before bed. A-freakin-mazing!! Nuff said!

It feels so good...

I am completely obsessed with comfort lately...

Being that I am a Gemini/Cancer cusp baby I do change my tune more that most.  So it should be of no surprise that less than 1 month ago I was the girl who lived by the idea that fashion more times than not requires pain.  Whether it was slipping my size 8 1/2 foot into a 7 1/2 and enduring it...or simply purchasing  5 inch heels that,  lets face it ladies,  are never comfortable past the first 20 seconds of wear!

Bringing me to the present blog entry..A little place  called Creatures of Comfort.

I discovered this gem when I was sent on an assignment to shoot it for an overseas magazine.  I didn't quite realize it then..but the idea of comfort would subconsciously stick to me like glue.  In the last 2 months I find myself only buying shoes that I can stand in for 12 hours straight!  Or only buying dresses that I can eat two burgers and a round of fries in.   

...And let me tell you this little strategy is working out quite well!

At the moment I actually refuse to be uncomfortable!

uhhh okay back to Creatures of Comfort.. Great shop.  Cute, stylish goodies that will definitely make you switch to the other side..of comfort that is!

What can I not say about this little sushi heaven tucked away on the mean streets of Beverly Hills...okay ..well not exactly mean.. but....you know what I am getting at..

The food...AMAZING.. Might actually be the best spicy tuna on crispy rice that I have ever had..and I have had a lot of spicy tuna on crispy rice!!  (sorry Koi!!)

I spent a Friday afternoon lunching at Tiger with my Grandma.  For those of you who have not had the opportunity to read past blogs entries..Grandma and I lunch together every Friday :)  

Let me preface my next statement by telling you that my Grandma is well past her 60's and a New Orleans Southern woman.   Thus sushi is not generally on her list of foods to eat on a Friday afternoon...or really ever for that matter.  With that said..

SHE LOVED IT!!  

She couldn't get enough of it and for the last two weeks has been asking when we shall return. SCORE!!!

Everything that we ordered was delicious.. and along with the most awesome waiter ever....the place is far far far from pretentious.   

Now I cannot wrap this blog up without telling you about the White Chocolate Amaretto Mouse with Praline Cookie Crumbs.. MY LORD!!!!  Sushi restaurants are not generally known for their dessert.. and never has a sushi restaurant had me saying to my friends "hey..let's go to this sushi place for desert"..well that never is over.  No joking, I have been thinking about that dessert since I finished the last spoonful of it two weeks ago.  Rest assured I will return!!!

Bowjie

So a few weeks ago miss Sita Young hired me to photograph her new business venture.  

Affectionately named BOWJIE.. 

She explained to me that they were bows... made from fabric scraps...that you can essentially put anywhere.  Your head, your purse, your shirt, your skirt..

After I said okay lets do it..I thought..hmm Bows.. that's one thing I won't be wearing...being that I left elementary school a very long time ago and my early twenties are no longer clearly visible in my rear view..and then I saw them...

soooooo freakin cute..

Thus.. the photo shoot commenced..and yes that is me in some of those photos..some how she convinced me after two previous shoots that day to model..and if any of you photog's have shot twice in a day..you know that on the third shoot of the day you are not exactly feeling like a super model..more like a super monster!!
