Marc by Marc..

Marc by Marc Jacobs, Black/Yellow/Orange Rubber Earrings

Marc by Marc..

I can honestly say that I am obsessed..

Actually.. Let me re-phrase..

I am obsessed with the new accessories store that opened on that cute little street in L.A. called Melrose Place.

Okay let me tell the truth..

I'm obsessed with it all.. Marc Jacobs, Marc by Marc Jacobs ..I'm even slightly obsessed with the man himself.   Please don't take that the wrong way!!  I'm utterly convinced that he is a super human being.  I'm mean have you seen the man? ..He has been around since 1984 still looks like he is in his twenties.. and has one of the biggest empires out there.  I need to know what's in the water he is drinking.. Scratch that..he will probably bottle it since he has pretty much cornered the market on super cute, super cheap accessories.  Anything you can think of he has done it..including paisley patterned, clear ceramic handled umbrellas (yes I own one).. Bottled water is a natural progression right?..

Which brings me to the point..  More often than not,  usually on my way home from lunch at Urth Cafe.  I pay a visit to the Marc by Marc store to see what cute ring, necklace, tee shirt, key chain, bracelet etc. I can snag up.  However this day was a little different.  Not thinking of self, I was on the hunt for a birthday gift for Courtney K and absolutely determined not to buy anything for me.  I had a goal darn-it!  Yeaaah...It didn't quite work out the way I planned.. Don't get me wrong. I got the gift.. I just got myself one too.  :)

Armed with a tee shirt and key chain I picked out for Courtney I aimed my sights straight for the register when I was completely distracted by these super cute rubber hoops.   They reminded me of those plastic bracelets that I used to stack on my arm as a kid.  You know the really bendy ones that came in like a million different colors.  I had to do it.  I get a pass for nostalgia right?

Anyhow..they come in a pack of three..three different sizes..three different colors.  I opted for the neon pack.  Perfect for the three holes I have in my ears, although most of the time I only wear two.

They are fun, cute and not expensive...awesome in my book!

Armed with only my iPhone...

Julia Clancey Spring/Summer 2011 collection.  LA Fashion Week,  Palihouse rooftop

I like to think of myself as a girl who loves and knows fashion. But as with all things in life ..the more I think I know, the more I realize I don't know.

..And this past Saturday afternoon I learned something new.

Julia Clancey!!!

British, female, designer of whimsical angelic, flirty and sometimes super sexy dresses.

Her clothes are super young and super fresh.

Okay a little back story.

I was at home..completely tired from the from partying the night before.  Fresh off my Saturday afternoon anti-gravity yoga. Just before my B-12 shot.  When I got a call.  "Meet at the Palihouse in 30 minutes for the Julia Clancey runway show".

Umm  Okay!!..

√ Shower
√ Helmut Lang Jeans
√ Leopard Pumps
√ Sun glasses
√ Lip gloss

Thirty minutes and counting..I made it.  Phew!

Cocktail hour and mingling before hand.. complete with amazing strawberry flavored champagne might I add.

Elevator to the roof and front row seats complete with cute little product filled gift bag.  Yay!

So far so good!

I had no idea what to expect.  Then the music started and butterfly adorned beauties started their journey across the green grassy runway.  Love at first site!  I was awestruck.  Two of my favorite things in the world.. Butterflies and beautiful, flowing, colorful, sparkly dresses.

Armed with only my iPhone ..I began to shoot..as only a photographer armed only with an iPhone could... very fast!!! (anyone with an I phone knows what I am saying).

All to find out that her Spring /Summer 2011 collection is blissfully named "Sensually Sorbet".  Who doesn't love those two things!!!

Anyhow..

Inspiration....

Lorraine Hansberry at Sardi's Restaurant, opening night of A Raisin in the Sun on Broadway, 1959
This past weekend was completely inspirational for me.  Within 24 hours I traveled to one of my favorite cities in the U.S., San Fransisco, I witnessed major goals being met despite of... and challenges fought in light of .... Oh and a 20,000 plus Nike women's marathon.

Okay I know you are all saying huh?

Allow me to explain.

Every October for the last 6 years I have traveled to San Fransisco to participate in a fundraiser gala for the Lorraine Hansberry Theater.  For obvious reasons this theater is monumentally dear to my heart.  In the last year the theater sadly lost both it's founders and directors within months of one another.  How would this theater survive??

With the generosity of people!!!  That's how!!..  The fund raiser while always fun was super important this year.  To stay a float the theater needed to raise $40 thousand dollars.  We came. We ate. We mingled. We laughed...and then the moment of truth.  Would the $40,000 goal be met?  As the auction commenced the first bids were submitted, then the second, and third.  By the end of it all the AMAZING people of the Bay Area raised $75,600 dollars.  Almost twice as much that was needed to stay afloat.

Yay!!!

Then I got to thinking about Lorraine.  A woman who I never had the chance to meet.  My grandmothers baby sister.   A woman who by the time of her death at age 34 had written award winning plays, countless speeches, contributed to several magazines, and touched a generation of people for decades to come.  At just 29 years old Lorraine Hansberry was the first African American woman to ever have a play on Broadway (A Raisin in the Sun)..  and it didn't stop there.. Let me put it all into perspective..

1. Youngest American to win the New York Drama critics Circle award (this is a serious deal folks)
2. First Black woman to have a play on Broadway.
3. 5th woman to ever win the New York Drama critics Circle Award.

..and less than 5 years after her first play debuted to Broadway .. The Sign in Sidney Brustein's Window ran on Broadway for 110 performances.

If that does not inspire you ..I don't know what will..

With all that said.. I would encourage everyone to support the Lorraine Hansberry Theater and all theaters across the country..  GO SEE A PLAY!!  There is nothing like watching an actor live in the moment on the stage...

P.S.  This is my favorite photo Of Lorraine..She is beaming light and beauty.  I often wish I could be a fly on the wall that night!

Simply Delicious...

All I can saw is Wow!!  Whoa!!  Holly Moly!!  I have not been so excited about something so simple in a really long time.

But first things first...

So I have been a bit slow with the blog posts the past couple weeks..  All I can divulge is that there is a lot going on right now.. good things..very good things.  So I do send my readers my deepest apologies.  I Taye Hansberry promise to be a better blogger! (right hand raised)

Okay back to the actual blog.  I fully intended to blog about something completely different today, but unfortunately for that little idea..Liberte´ Yogurt entered my life.

Today was very interesting.. I lunched..a great one due to Dine LA.. which is a whole other blog to come in the next couple days.  Collected some money.  Gotta love that!  I saw the wonderful Dr. Thomas Marinaro, the Chiropractor sent from heaven and I took a trip to Whole Foods.    Might I mention that I was so kindly chauffeured by my beautiful cousin Fabienne.  Thanks Fabi ;)  By the way,  everyone should get driven around the city of LA on their errands at least once in their life.  Its fantastic!  Anyhow back to it..  After visiting the gluten free cookie isle and the gluten free pasta section...we migrated on over to the yogurt isle.  Just as I was grabbing my usual chocolate flavored yogurt of choice.. Fabienne says to me.. "Have you ever had Liberte´?"..to which I replied   "Ummm NO?", and like any other good glutenous foodie in the world I was immediately intrigued.  Okay...  Why not?

And thank GOD I did...

All I really need to say is thick, creamy, heaven in a plastic cup!!!!

All natural, no preservatives, no additives.  Just plain old goodness..

However if you are looking for something that is nonfat, I clearly was not...this ain't it!  Its real and it has fat.   Hello!!  Why do you think it's soooo freaking good.

Two gifts of Blood Red...

Nails: Chanel Rouge Fatal #487, Lipsitck: Maybelline Red Revival #645 Chanel Rouge Fatal
Vampire Ring Sold On Nasty Gal

So today was Friday..although by the time I post this blog it won't be..but you get the idea.  My O.G. Stuff She Likes readers (whom I love so very much) know that most Friday's are reserved for lunch with my grandma.  Today was no exception.  We met in the foyer of  Neiman Marcus Beverly Hills, traveled the three floors to the bar up top and proceeded to talk laugh and fill our bellies.  A word of advice..cherish them while they are here because there is no knowledge like the knowledge that a elder family member can give you.  Anyhow..During the course of lunch I noticed that for the first time since 1985 my grandma had a red manicure.

Back story:  this is the woman who has had a french manicure week after week for the last 15 years.  So please know this is a HUGE deal!

Okay back to the story..  After I hemmed and hawed (is that how you spell that?) over how beautiful the Chanel Rouge Fatal #487 red polish was..Grandma promptly went in her purse and pulled out the bottle that she bought for me..Yay!!  Grandma is the best!!  Cut to three hours later I was fervently in the nail shop having the metallic gun metal silver from last week removed and replaced with  blood red..and yes this delicious polish is the color of blood.

That was gift number two of the week.

FLASHBACK:
Last Thursday night.. I along with Michelle Joan Papillion, Nonhle Thema and the lovely Reena Patton were lounging at the Hotel Avalon enjoying some non alcoholic deliciousness and yeah you guessed it.. more food (when am I ever not eating or talking about eating?)  Anyhow, on a group girl trip to the restroom Miss Patton pulled out a tube of brand new Maybelline Red Revival #645 lipstick and handed it to yours truly.  It was love at first sight!  This creamy, highly pigmented red is amazing.  It doesn't get crusty in the corners of your mouth (ladies you know exactly what I am talking about) and  it stains your lips so after you eat there is no need to immediately excuse yourself to reapply. That's alone makes it all worth it!

So there you have it.. two blood red gifts that I am super appreciative of and completely excited to wear all winter..if those of us who reside here in LA ever get one..
